The Perfect Balance

It's Saturday again, didn't wake up to my alarm, no need to rush out by 6:00 AM. But I still feel like it's a workday, why you ask; well that will be because I brought my work home. I thought I would finish my reports which would only take 2 hours, well I thought wrong; my phone has been ringing non-stop, the only time I didn't hear it ring was when I left it in the house.

How can a woman in the 21st-century balance a career and a home? You hear different stories all the time about successful women and all that, but let's be real with ourselves, IS THAT POSSIBLE? A typical African woman's perception of what should be is get married, have children, raise them, take care of the house. The sad part is, I see friends of mine who had good jobs and had a good chance of developing their careers quit their jobs "to be a full-time mom"; I am sorry what does that even mean? Being at work making a living support your man and kids makes you less of a wife and mom?

Let's look at it from a different point of view, if you have a job and your husband doesn't does that mean you'd have to quit your job to be a "full-time" mom? I agree some jobs can be very demanding and stressful, we still need to find the perfect routine to make things right.

Here is a list of what might help:

 1. Determination; be sure you want to separate your career from your personal life.

 2. Schedule; have a timetable, I make sure from when I enter my office till I get out by 5;00 pm, all I do has to do with work. Ladies with kids you can easily use your break time to visit your kids in the creche, or run little errands.

 3. Be Happy; not having a happy mental environment can cause a lot of problems, so always make an effort to make yourself happy, even if things seem so bleak.
