Getting a car for the first time can be considered a pretty big deal, who wouldn't want to to have that awesome feeling of jiggling the keys in their hands, or saying to someone "those are my CAR KEYS". Pretty amazing feeling right, like a fairy tale come true? Well if you did not think about what I am about to list, it could turn out pretty bad for you.
You have to consider the following:
1. Cost- this is the first thing everyone goes for, not bad but not the most important. See, the cost of acquiring a car is nothing to the cost of maintaining one; in a country like Nigeria you do not have the luxury of getting a cheap or an expensive vehicle without access to the parts
2. Functions- Now we all know everyone can't be James Bond, but know why you are buying that car. If you need the kiddies express getting a Sienna or Odyssey is not far from your path, but the kiddies wagon with a Mercedes C320, that is just wrong.
3. Parts- Like I said, make sure when getting a car make sure the parts are available.
4. Research- It wont hurt you to get online or ask around the different car models around, their features, mileage, and maintenance cost. You could also get a trusted mechanic to help with this or someone who knows his/her way with cars.
I don't know about you guys, but for my first car I am sure a month's research is going just about right, what do you think?
Congrats on the new car. Wanted to share a little advice I gained from buying my new car last week. Never go into that dealership without some knowledge of the price and rebates. One salesman quoted me a price $5,000 more than after I showed his newspaper ad and rebate information. That 10 minutes amount of work saved me a ton of money.
